I’m no longer amused. This is the back left corner of the market garden.

I have an option the majority of locals will hate. Because this is my income and I can show a true profit I have the option of having the release of wild turkeys banned for a 25 mile radius. I’m not going to ask for that. Instead, I’ll call the warden to get a permit to shoot (and eat) them when they cause crop damage. Before they went into the woods they walked through the spinach and peas. They were in a hurry to get away from us so they didn’t stop to eat.

Your action sounds completely reasonable to me.
I’m amazed by how much wild turkeys have spread. When I lived in talmadge I never, ever saw them. The first one I saw in the wild was a few years ago by the side of the interstate in southern maine. Now they seem to be everywhere.
Not funny! Do what you need to do!
Wow, I’m, uh, green with envy. You can get a permit to do that? Not here in Minnesota. I can get a permit for deer doing damage- but it’s not legal to keep the meat, you call the warden and he picks it up; given to a food shelf. As for turkeys, they still have the fantasy that they’re harmless; though every regular farmer I know swears at them- they mow corn like a bush hog. Can you get your DNR to explain the facts of life to ours?
(in your spare time)
I’m sorry you didn’t get your turkey, but I’d sure be talking to the powers that be about getting those on your own property!
I had no idea that turkeys caused so much damage…go get them…and save me a drumstick while you are at it…:)
Well it’s a good thing that turkeys weren’t chosen as the National Bird.
Egads!
I love wildlife as much as anyone else, but when they leave the wilds to invade your home and garden, it’s time for a change……kapow!
Enjoy thawild turkey dinner!
